Summer School Information

 Any student that failed a class 9-11th grade or will fail a course this semester can register for summer school using this link:

Registration is due Friday, May 21.

Summer School 2021 Information

Where: Marshall County High School

When: June 1st-June 18th

Time: Monday -Friday from 8:00 am-12:00 pm

Summer School will not be offered virtually.

Students will complete curriculum through teacher-led assignments AND on the online PLATO platform. Thus, students must complete the work in person with the guidance of teachers.

Students may not miss more than 3 hours of instruction over the course of Summer School, or they will be dismissed from the program and lose the opportunity to gain needed credits.

All policies from the Student Code of Conduct will be enforced during Summer School. This includes the dress code.

Transportation is provided!

Transfer students needing to recover credits lost during a move are also eligible to attend!

Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs Announces 120 Students Selected for Summer Program

FRANKFORT, Ky. (April 19, 2021) - The Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs (GSE), a highly competitive summer program where Kentucky high school students focus on product innovation and business model design, has announced the selection of 120 students from nearly 50 Kentucky counties for the 2021 program.

“I am so proud of the Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs and the students who have been chosen to participate in this premier summer program,” said Gov. Andy Beshear. “The GSE experience is so sought after that we have added a second session this year so we could accommodate the increasing demand. Kentucky has set the bar high for giving high school students a rewarding and unique residential college experience. This program will unleash their innate entrepreneurial spirit and put them on a path to create businesses and opportunities that will reap benefits for our state for years to come.”

Hundreds of high school students applied to be part of the GSE experience. Participants are selected through a competitive process that does not consider GPA or test scores, and the experience is free for all participants. GSE’s uniquely designed application is structured to identify creative problem-solvers who want to roll up their sleeves and dive head first into creating something meaningful.

“While social and economic empowerment has always been at the core of the GSE experience, our talented class of 2021 truly embodies the fact that without diversity in all forms, innovation does not exist,” said Tasha Sams, executive director of GSE. “In fact, what we look for in our participants can’t be tabulated. We seek the innovative thinkers, the collaborators, the risk takers, the change makers, the teens with a drive that is unstoppable. They are Kentucky’s future business creators, and based on GSE’s class of 2021, the future of the commonwealth is brighter than ever!”

Earlier this month, GSE announced the addition of a second summer session for 2021 to accommodate the ever-increasing demand for the GSE experience. This year’s program will welcome 120 high school students from across the commonwealth, up from 72 in recent years, with plans to double the program size in 2022.

“Congratulations to all of the students selected for the GSE class of 2021. I am excited to see what new ideas and products come out of the program this summer, and to see how the students will grow from the GSE experience,” said Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman, who is also the secretary of the Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.
 
GSE’s first session will run June 6-26, 2021, and the second session July 5-24, 2021. Plans for an in-person program hosted by Northern Kentucky University (NKU) are underway. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, GSE will implement health protocols to keep participants safe and has worked alongside university partner NKU and the Northern Kentucky community on a comprehensive and strategic plan for this summer.

GSE is a relative newcomer on the list of Kentucky’s Governor's Schools, having opened to its first group of students in 2013. The three-week residential immersion program brings high school students from across the state together and equips them with the tools needed to unleash their innate entrepreneurial spirits for the betterment of Kentucky. During the program, teams of students develop a business model, design a prototype and pitch their startups to a panel of judges. GSE teaches the opportunities, benefits and pitfalls of taking a business concept from the idea phase to pitching it to potential investors.

While all participants gain vital entrepreneurial skills through the program to use as they enter the workplace or continue into higher education, more than 16 new businesses have been launched by GSE alumni since it started. Others have filed for multiple patents and developed new ideas and relationships that sow the seeds for more business formation.

Dozens of alumni have chosen to enroll in entrepreneurial programs at Kentucky universities and attribute this decision to the inspiration they received by attending GSE in high school. Through partnerships with collegiate partners, GSE provides more than $5 million in scholarship funding opportunities to Kentucky high school students each year. GSE fosters and empowers the Commonwealth’s future business owners and community leaders, giving these teens the support they need to go from high school students to business owners.

Because of strong partnerships with entities like the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet, The Cabinet for Economic Development, Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky (TMMK), and numerous public and private supporters like the Marksbury Family Foundation, and Nate Morris of Rubicon Global, GSE is completely free for selected entrepreneurs. Alumni of GSE gain access to a host of scholarship opportunities, high school class credit, and a statewide network of life long entrepreneurial support. Since 2013, more than 500 student entrepreneurs have received scholarship funding through the program.

Purchase AHEC Health Career Academy

Message from Anne Hess, the Health Career Coordinator for the Purchase Area Health Education Center:

We are doing a summer camp called Purchase AHEC Health Career Academy. Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors will learn about different health careers from health professionals. 

Our camp will be June 14th-18th from 10:00am-2:00pm every day. It will be at the MSU Paducah campus.

Important Dates to come!

 We have just completed grading term 7.  As of today grades have been updated in Infinite Campus and reflect your most up to date grades.  

The last day of school is May 14.

Finals schedule:

May 13 - 2nd and 4th blocks

May 14 - 1st and 3rd blocks

At the conclusion of this semester the cumulative grades for each of your four courses will be final and posted to your transcript.  

Students failing any courses this school year, 9th or 10th grade year, or in danger of being retained at the end of the semester will be eligible for summer school.  Summer School will be held June 1-18.  Students must have 6 credits to be a sophomore next school year.

Message from Jennifer Jackson – Sophomore Counselor

 Hello Class of 2024!

 

If you were not able to attend Registration night, no worries you will be discussing the registration process in Huddle over the next couple of weeks.  Next Wednesday, March 10th, your huddle teacher will begin individual conferences with each of you to select your courses for next year.

 

Here is  a link for the Course Registration Guidebook and the Rising Sophomore mock form.

The course guide will be a helpful tool to complete this process.  It contains graduation requirements, pathways, and course descriptions.  The mock registration form will allow you to discuss course options with your families and come prepared for your Huddle registration session with your top 8 choices as well as your alternates.

 

We will register during Huddle from March 10 - March 17   It will be VERY important that you have reviewed the information in the course guide and on the mock form so that you will be ready when it’s your turn to register.

 

Rising Sophomores will need to reference the graduation requirements to ensure they have met and have a plan to meet remaining graduation requirements.  The requirements can be found in the course guide.  Your transcript is available through your IC student portal under documents. Rising Sophomores will complete a transcript review with their Huddle teacher, choose electives, and choose alternates.

2021-2022 Commissioners Student Advisory Council

Students encouraged to apply for 2021-2022 Commissioner’s Student Advisory Council

(FRANKFORT, KY) – Public school students in grades 10-12 are invited to apply for 14 vacant positions on the 2021-2022 Commissioner’s Student Advisory Council, a group that provides input to the Kentucky commissioner of education.

The Commissioner’s Student Advisory Council is a year-long program. The group will meet with the commissioner and Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) staff to discuss how decisions made at the state level are affecting students throughout Kentucky. Members will provide feedback from a student perspective on critical issues impacting Kentucky students and schools.

"Involving the voices of our students and empowering them in our decisions is critically important to all of us here at KDE," said Jason E. Glass, Kentucky's commissioner of education and chief learner. "Over the past year, KDE has increased the number of meetings with this valuable student council and has continued to look for additional ways to include their voice as we develop policy and provide guidance to our districts and schools."

KDE is seeking students for the council who have innovative ideas and thoughtful insight into how schools and student achievement can be improved. Students who represent the diverse academic, geographic, demographic and school-size variables for Kentucky are encouraged to apply.

Students selected to serve on the council represent each of the seven Supreme Court districts, and at least one student from the Kentucky School for the Blind, the Kentucky School for the Deaf and students enrolled in a career and technical education pathway. Students selected for the council may serve consecutive one-year terms as long as they remain eligible to serve.

A committee of KDE appointed representatives will review and score all applications based on the answers provided. Top scoring applicants will be invited to interview for a position on the council; appointments will be determined by how well the applicants communicate their ideas and goals.

The application deadline is March 12, 2021. Interested students should use this Google form to apply.

AP EXAM REGISTRATION IS UNDERWAY FOR SPRING COURSES - DEADLINE MARCH 5

 

AP Exam registration is currently open now through March 5 for any student enrolled in a spring semester AP course.

SPRING 2021 AP EXAM INFORMATION 

AP EXAM FEE $95

Fee waivers are available if you qualify for free/reduced lunch. There will be a place to mark that in the online registration account.  

Current SBDM policy states that students that score a 3 on the AP exam are eligible for one letter grade increase on their final course grade.  Scores of 4 or 5 are eligible for up to 2 letter grade increases. Transcript changes occur once AP scores arrive and are processed in the fall.   

 REGISTRATION & PAYMENT PROCESS: 

*AP Exam ordering and registration is a TWO step process. 

1. Payment 

We are using Total Registration to handle our AP exam payments this year. Students must create an account and login to register and pay for their exams.  This will provide students with the option to pay with a credit card (students may also pay by debit card, check, or cashier’s check if they want/need to).  Students previously using Total Registration in years past or to register for the PSAT will already have an account and will click ‘login here’ at the bottom of the site. 

There will be a link on our school website “AP EXAMS” that you can click on or you can access the registration site directly at www.TotalRegistration.net/AP/180200  

2. Enroll/Register 

Students must enroll in their AP courses and mark their intent in the CollegeBoard’s MyAP system. Students registering for an AP exam must mark their exam indicator to yes.  This is done at MyAP.CollegeBoard.org. You will login with your existing College Board student account (if you have previously taken AP, PSAT or SAT exams) or you will create a new College Board student account. You should have already created an account and joined your course with the code given to you by your teacher by the first week of the course. 

*Note: Total Registration is used to record payment while CollegeBoard's MyAP Classroom is used to mark intent for the actual order. One cannot be completed without the other. 

DEADLINES: 

Fall/Full Year courses: 

Students currently in a fall or full year AP course at Marshall County High School must register and pay for exams by Friday, November 6. The registration window opens October 13,2020. 

Spring courses: Students taking a spring semester course must register and pay by March 5, 2021. 

If you do not sign up and pay for the exam during your course’s window (fall/full year or spring) there will not be an exam ordered for you – no exceptions.   

 

REFUND POLICY:  

• Students who cancel an exam by Fri - Apr 23, 2021 are entitled to a refund of the exam fee minus a cancellation fee of $20.00 (per exam cancelled). 

• After Fri - Apr 23, 2021 there are no refunds. 

• Late fees are nonrefundable.
