Now Accepting Applications for the 2022 Summer Young Leaders Academy for
Kentucky High School StudentsJune 21-25, 2022 at the University of Louisville
The McConnell Center offers an annual summer residential program to outstanding Kentucky high school students to help hone their leadership skills and further their understanding of American history. This year's program will consider "Revisiting American Constitutionalism." Each accepted student will receive a full scholarship that includes lodging, meals & conference materials. Applications are due April 15.

NEW START AND END TIMES FOR SCHOOL: We will be adding 5 minutes in the morning and 6 minutes in the afternoon beginning February 22,2022. Our 1st block will begin at 8:00am, meaning all students must arrive before 8:00 and be in 1st block before the 8:00 bell rings. We will now dismiss students at 2:56. This should not affect bus times.
COMING UP THIS WEEK! 2022-23 COURSE REGISTRATION (VERY IMPORTANT): We strongly encourage all families to attend our Parent Night for Course Registration on Thursday, February 24. Your students have been registered and we want to make you aware of your student’s selections and the multiple opportunities available to students. We will have information that is grade specific and we will share the opportunities available through dual credit, coop, and clubs. You will also have the opportunity ask questions and/or make changes if needed. Let’s partner together as educators, families, and students in ensuring the high school experience is filled with purpose for all students. A purpose-filled high school experience = YES!
Rising Sophomores, Juniors, & Seniors will start at 5:00.
Rising Freshmen will start at 6:30.

DUAL CREDIT: If your student is planning to attend college after high school, a dual credit course offered through our high school is strongly recommended due to cost, support offered, and experience. We partner with 3 universities to offer these experiences. Don’t miss out on hearing more about these opportunities on Thursday night.
YEARBOOKS: Last call for yearbook orders. Friday will be the last day to order a yearbook. You may order a yearbook through jostensyearbook.com or call 877-767-5217. Payment plans are available for families
Spring AP Exam Registration Information - Deadline is March 8
This message only applies to you if you currently have a student taking an AP (CollegeBoard Advanced Placement) class this semester.
Ms. Burnham visited all spring classes earlier this month to discuss the upcoming AP exam registration for spring courses. These courses include: AP Psychology, AP English Literature, AP Macroeconomics, AP Government, AP English Language, and AP Calculus.
Registration began on 2/16 for spring semester AP courses. The deadline is March 8. Students wanting to mail in a check to Total Registration rather than pay online need to do that ASAP to ensure payment is received and processed by the deadline.
Students are not required to take the AP exam. Students wanting to take the AP exam must follow the two step directions in the handout.

GSE Information Session on Dec. 10th
ANNOUNCEMENTS
SPRING SEMESTER VIRTUAL LEARNING OPTION: There are limited spaces available in Marshall County’s virtual learning option for Spring semester at the high school level. If you or your student is interested in this option due to health needs, please contact Aaron Hedges at the the Marshall County Board of Education, (270) 527 - 8628 by December 1. All interested families/students must contact the Board Office by December 1 to be considered for placement.
REMINDERS: All students who enroll in our virtual learning option will become students of Edmentum’s Virtual Academy. This placement is for the entire Spring semester.
PROGRESS REPORTS: Progress reports went home through students on Friday. If you have any questions or concerns about your student’s grades, please connect with their teacher. You can keep track of your student’s grades through Infinite Campus at all times through your parent portal. If you need access to this portal or have any questions, please contact our front office.
HOOPFEST: Hoopfest is scheduled for Thursday, December 2- Saturday, December 4. Students may purchase armbands for all games at school. All adults may purchase tickets through GoFan.co.
HOOPIN’ IT UP LUNCH: We host a Hoopin’ It Up Lunch on Friday during Hoopfest for our students. Students may bring additional money for snacks and treats. Regular lunch is still provided and free of charge.

Not only does GSE prepare students for their entrepreneurial journey, it also qualifies them for some $5 million of scholarships from Kentucky's universities and colleges.

AP Exam Registration for fall and full year AP courses will has begun.
UPDATE: Just announced! KDE is paying for a portion of all standard AP exams. This announcement came after registration began. Students will now only be required to pay $19 for each AP exam. Free/Reduced students and AP CSP and AP CSA are $0.
Mrs. Burnham has visited all fall and full year AP classes this week to discuss the upcoming AP exam registration for fall and full year courses. Registration for those AP exams will begin Monday 10/18 and run through November 8. These courses include: AP Statistics, AP CSP, AP CSA, AP Psychology, AP US History, AP Art, AP Chemistry. There will be a seperate registration for Spring AP courses.

GSE- First Virtual Event will take place on Wednesday Oct. 20th
The Governor's School for Entrepreneurs (GSE) will begin accepting applications for summer 2022 on Monday, November 15th. GSE brings teens together from around the state of Kentucky, immerses them in a creative space, and arms them with the tools they need to unleash their entrepreneurial spirits. While all participants gain vital entrepreneurial skills through the program to use as they enter the workplace or continue into higher education, 20 new businesses have already been launched by young entrepreneurs. Others have filed for multiple patents and developed new ideas and relationships that sow the seeds for more business formation. In addition, as a direct result of their participation In GSE, participants qualify for some $5 million in scholarship opportunities from Kentucky's universities and colleges.
GSE has arranged to host 5 virtual events via Zoom this fall to showcase the GSE experience and dive into the application process. Find links to register here, and schedule below.

American Legion High School Oratory Scholarship Program
The American Legion sponsors a High School Oratory Scholarship Program - "A Constitutional Speech Contest" - designed to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States. This contest is open to all high school students.
Contestants must give two speeches.
- Prepared Oration (8-10 minutes) - original work of the student on any aspect of hte Constitution with an emphasis on the obligations of citizens to the government of the United States.
- Assigned Topic (3-5 minutes) - addresses any one of four topics drawn at each level of the contest. The Assigned Topics for this year's contest can be found at www.kylegion.org.
